Dementia Care Specialists (DCS) has awarded GreenTree at Mt. Vernon with the status of Distinguished Provider—the highest credential in dementia care.

The award was presented to the assisted living and memory care unit in Mt. Vernon, IL at a special recognition ceremony on February 23.

Launched in 2011, the Distinguished Provider program honors a commitment to the DCS training philosophy and abilities-based approach, which helps improve function, safety, and quality of life for individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias (ADRD).

The program applies to entire facilities, as well as individual recognition for therapists, nurses, aides, activity professionals, leaders, and others who demonstrate the passion, heart, and skill to deliver person-centered dementia care that really makes a difference.

“When people look for a long-term care facility, they want to select a place that they trust will offer the best and most attentive care for themselves or their loved ones living with ADRD. That trust is exactly what the Distinguished Provider status communicates. It is a seal of approval from industry leaders,” said Kim Warchol, DCS president and founder. “As Distinguished Providers, GreenTree at Mt. Vernon is proving that it is among the best for dementia care and is committed to providing the highest level of quality.”

A Distinguished Provider, as recognized by CPI’s Dementia Care Specialists group, is a facility that demonstrates a commitment to high-quality dementia care. This includes compliance with training standards and implementation of CPI’s Dementia Capable Care training and principles. The level of training achieved within the Distinguished Provider recognition helps to facilitate positive outcomes such as: 1) Promoting the highest possible level of function for those at all stages of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias (ADRD). 2) Maximizing and maintaining health and safety for those at all stages of ADRD. 3) Maximizing and maintaining quality of life and dignity.

In addition to ensuring high standards and quality dementia care, DCS training also benefits the facility in other ways. Care partners find more job satisfaction and providers improve their business results. Implementing Dementia Capable Care helps organizations maximize reimbursements, reduce staff turnover, increase census and revenue, and improve care outcomes.

DCS welcomes dementia care facilities and individual practitioners to apply for the Distinguished Provider program.

Recently, President Barack Obama announced new resources in the fight against Alzheimer's in advance of the first National Alzheimer's Plan. With more than 5.4 million Americans living with Alzheimer's, and many more projected over the coming years, CPI hopes that the level of care provided by GreenTree at Mt. Vernon can serve as an example as the US develops the National Alzheimer’s Plan.
