US Life Expectancy Rises and Alzheimer’s Disease is the 6th Leading Cause of Death

The government reported that U.S. life expectancy has risen to a new high, now standing at nearly 78 years. The increase is due mainly to falling death rates in almost all the leading causes of death. Life expectancy is the period a child born in 2007 is expected to live, assuming mortality trends stay constant. Read more »

Dr. Rachel Whitmer, the study’s senior author said "This is the first study, to our knowledge, to show that not only high cholesterol, but also borderline high cholesterol, is associated with dementia.We need to start thinking about risk factors for dementia in middle age, and cholesterol is a risk factor for dementia that is somewhat modifiable."
