Minnesota SF 2753 to Require Mental Health Crisis Training for Peace Officers
Minnesota SF 2753, referred to the senate finance committee on March 30, 2016, concerns training for peace officers:
  • The bill requires the Peace Officer Standards and Training Board to create a list of approved training courses to instruct peace officers in the techniques of responding to a mental health crisis.
  • The training course must include techniques for:
                (1)   relating to individuals with mental illnesses and their families; and
                (2)   crisis de-escalation.
  • An individual shall complete a minimum of four hours of continuing education training over three years.
