Minnesota's Memory Care Training Requirements
Minnesota’s HF2402 requires dementia care training for staff in:
  • Alzheimer's disease and related disorders
  • Communication skills
  • Assisting with activities of daily living
  • Problem solving challenging behaviors

For housing facilities that serve or have programs for residents with Alzheimer’s disease or other dementias (whether in a segregated unit or a general unit), employees of the establishment and the establishment’s arranged home care provider must receive at least:
  • Supervisors—8 hours of initial training within 120 working hours of their employment start date.
  • Direct-care employees—8 hours of initial training within 160 working hours.
  • Staff who do not provide direct care—4 hours of initial training within 160 working hours.

Facilities that provide assisted living services under chapter 144G must meet the following training requirements:
  • Supervisors—4 hours of initial training within 120 working hours.
  • Direct-care employees and staff who do not provide direct care—4 hours of initial training within 160 working hours.

Following initial training, staff at all levels in all facility types are required to have 2 hours of dementia care training for every 12 months of employment.

Helping You Train Staff
Dementia care units and facilities across the US use our Dementia Capable Care training program to raise the standard for memory care.
