CPI Training Meets Requirements of Ontario Ministry of Community and Social Services

The Community and Developmental Services Branch of the Ministry of Community and Social Services (MCSS) has identified CPI’s Nonviolent Crisis Intervention® training program as suitable for use in adult developmental services agencies that are funded under the Services and Supports to Promote the Social Inclusion of Persons With Developmental Disabilities Act, 2008.

At the ministry’s request, the Community Networks of Specialized Care – Ontario (CNSC–O) conducted a comprehensive review of commercially available behaviour intervention curriculums and identified programs that meet the ministry's requirements. The MCSS accepted the CNSC–O’s findings and has chosen to advise developmental services agencies in Canada that are funded under the act that the Nonviolent Crisis Intervention® program meets the ministry’s requirements for behaviour intervention training.

Under the act, all developmental services agencies that receive funding from the ministry must train their staff in the prevention of and the safe use of physical restraint. As the Nonviolent Crisis Intervention® program incorporates sections on understanding human behaviour, supporting the individual, detecting warning signs as a means to prevention, assessing risk, and using intervention strategies and techniques, it has been deemed suitable for use as part of a comprehensive crisis prevention and intervention course.

Since 1980, more than six million professionals have participated in CPI's training programs and learned safe, nonharmful strategies for de-escalating challenging behavior. CPI's Nonviolent Crisis Intervention® training empowers professionals with the skills and confidence they need to safely manage acting-out behaviour at the earliest possible stage.

Nonviolent Crisis Intervention® training is flexible and can be tailored to organizations’ unique needs. The train-the-trainer option yields the best return on investment, as select staff become certified to teach the program to others within their organizations on an ongoing basis.

CPI can provide training onsite at your organization and offers training in more than 150 locations throughout the US and Canada.
