What Will You Do for World Autism Awareness Day?

What Will You Do for World Autism Awareness Day?
April is right around the corner, and every year that means something to us here at CPI. It’s time to celebrate National Autism Awareness Month and specifically World Autism Awareness Day on April 2!

There are so many things your organization can do to mark this event. Consider:
  • Having employees participate in a fundraiser of some kind.
  • Showing a movie before or after work or during lunch featuring a person with autism and have a follow-up discussion about it.
  • Learning more about autism by reading articles, visiting related websites, or viewing YouTube clips from self-advocates talking about living with autism.
  • Download Autism Spectrum Disorders: Supportive Strategies for Crisis Prevention and get tips for working with students with ASD.
Putting up a bulletin board or an informative display.
  • Passing out a reading list of books that feature characters with autism and having a book club meeting to discuss.
  • Gathering employees as a team and spending a day of service helping an organization that serves those with autism in your community.
  • Sharing one statistic or quote per day of the month over email about autism.
  • Participating in Autism Speaks’ Light It Up Blue campaign or the Autism Society of America’s 1Power4Autism initiative.
We here at CPI have done all of these in the past and are doing some of these again this year as well. Multiple teams will be participating in and raising money through a Hawaiian-themed bowl-a-thon for the Good Friend, Inc. organization in our community and volunteering at a fundraising concert for another local advocacy organization supporting individuals with disabilities.

So please join us and share your follow-up reports of success right here with others around the world! We’d love for you to share your pictures with us on our Facebook page, or if you’re a CPI Certified Instructor, please post your stories and photos in the Instructor Community!
