Autism Checklist for Babies

Posted on 05.19.2011 | 0 comments
A five-minute checklist could help diagnose babies with autism earlier than before, according to a recent article in The Washington Post.

In a federally funded study of over 10,000 infants, the 24-question survey identified about half of the children who were later diagnosed with autism. The checklist was given to parents at the babies’ first-year checkups. Children are not usually diagnosed with autism until about age five.

The checklist is designed to identify language and developmental delays with questions about children’s behaviors.

More than 36,000 children are diagnosed with autism in the United States each year.
