Dementia Care Specialists (DCS) has recognized GreenTree at Post Road in Indianapolis, IN as the first facility in Indiana to achieve the status of Distinguished Provider—the highest credential in dementia care.
The award was presented at a special recognition ceremony on September 19. Senator Patricia Miller, Douglas Hairston of the Mayor's Office of the Front Porch Alliance, and Dana McKee, associate publisher of Seniors Guide, spoke at the ceremony.
The Distinguished Provider program honors facilities’ commitment to the Dementia Capable Care training philosophy and abilities-based approach, which improves function, safety, and quality of life for persons with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (ADRD).
"When people look for a long-term care facility, they want to select a place that they trust will offer the best and most attentive care for themselves or their loved ones. That trust is exactly what the Distinguished Provider status communicates. It is a seal of approval from industry leaders," said Kim Warchol, OTR/L, Dementia Care Specialists president and founder.
With over 5 million Americans living with ADRD, and many more projected to develop the disease over the coming years, the level of care provided by Distinguished Providers serves as a model by which to elevate the standard of dementia care.
DCS recognizes therapists and care partners as well as facilities that demonstrate the passion, skills, and heart to deliver quality dementia care. Both facilities and individual practitioners are encouraged to apply to the Distinguished Provider program.
