Applied Physical Training

Expand Your Physical Intervention Skills.

Do you work with exceptionally aggressive, violent, or difficult-to-manage individuals?

Applied Physical Training℠ is an intensive program designed to enhance your ability to teach physical intervention strategies to staff within your organization.

Taught within the context of the CPI philosophy of Care, Welfare, Safety, and Security℠, the program teaches that physical intervention should be used only as a last resort when an individual presents an imminent danger to self or others.

CPI teaches that physical intervention should be used only by staff trained in its safest use. Staff should not use physical training or interventions to gain a person’s compliance, to punish the person, or for convenience. Additionally, when a situation warrants physical intervention, the intervention should stop as soon as the acting-out person regains control.

Start With Crisis Prevention Training.

Only staff trained in crisis prevention and verbal de-escalation strategies should manage violent behavior. As such, the Applied Physical Training℠ course is available only to Nonviolent Crisis Intervention® Certified Instructors. Nonviolent Crisis Intervention® training focuses on positive de-escalation skills as the most important tools for intervention. It also teaches less restrictive, last-resort physical intervention techniques that focus on safety.

Apply Your Skills to Emergency Situations.

Once you’ve become certified to teach the Nonviolent Crisis Intervention® program to staff in your facility, you will be versed in its fundamentals, from prevention to the essential Postvention process. Through the Instructor Certification Program you attend and the trainings you conduct, you and your staff will be equipped with skills to boost safety.

You can then attend the Applied Physical Training℠ program to enrich the courses you teach with advanced techniques.

Problem Solve With the Advanced Course.

In the Applied Physical Training℠ course, you’ll examine the philosophy, psychology, physiology, and physics of physical intervention. You’ll get extensive opportunities to problem solve and adapt skills to special circumstances and emergency situations.

During the Applied Physical Training℠ program, you will expand your skills for:
  • Recognizing and minimizing risks.
  • Conducting ongoing trainings that help ensure safety for both staff and service users.
  • Ensuring Care, Welfare, Safety, and Security℠ for everyone.
