Safely Manage Disruptive Behavior

Safely Manage Disruptive Behavior
What do an elementary school, an emergency room, and the coach-class cabin of a jumbo jet have in common? Maybe many things, but one thing they all contain are professional people attempting to keep order and do their jobs safely.

Another thing they share is a tenuous peace dependent on the safe, respectful behavior of all parties present. But what if a student chooses to act out and suddenly attacks another student? What if the newly-admitted stabbing victim pulls out his own knife and threatens a nurse? What if the over-served businessman begins screaming to the other passengers that the flight is doomed?

Right about then it would be great if the teacher, the nurse, and the flight attendant were each trained to safely manage disruptive behavior. Disruptive behavior in many instances is only one short step away from a crisis situation, and that can mean outcomes where people get injured and public perceptions of your organization suffer too.

CPI Training Can Help
Fortunately, CPI training can help you defuse and safely manage challenging and disruptive behavior before an incident can escalate into a crisis. Our free eBook, Creating a Safe and Caring Work Environment, is packed full of tips and techniques that can help you recognize and safely manage disruptive behavior where you work.

While safety tips have real value, there is no substitute for the comprehensive lessons you and your staff can learn in CPI’s training programs.  Successful implementation of the Nonviolent Crisis Intervention® program for care professionals or the Prepare Training® program for professionals in business environments can lead to dramatic changes in your organizational culture, including improvements in professional behavior and positive changes in student, patient, client, or service user behavior. These changes offer many benefits to your staff, your organization, and the individuals you serve.
