Reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA)

Maryland Governor’s Office for Children Develops New Rules for Residential Child Care Training
The Maryland Governor’s Office for Children developed new rules for residential child care facilities that require them to provide training to their personnel on behavioral interventions, strategies, and supports. The Code of Maryland Regulations (COMAR) 14.31.06 also requires the facilities to train personnel on the appropriate implementation of the new rules developed in accordance with these regulations.

CWLA Releases Nation’s Children 2010 Report
The Child Welfare League of America (CWLA) released Nation’s Children 2010, a report which compiles state and national statistics on the health and welfare of U.S. children. The new report revealed that one-fifth of children in the country are living in poverty, which is a 20% increase from 2009. The report indicated a drop in child abuse, neglect, and the number of children in foster care.
Cape Cod Hospital Ramps Up Training
Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis, Massachusetts plans to enroll security staff and eventually nurses, nursing supervisors, managers, and emergency room social workers in CPI courses and annual refresher training following the death of a man while he was restrained at the hospital last fall, according to an article in the Cape Cod Times.
