Critical Decisions, Critical Actions
Despite security tools and resources, the success of any crisis response often hinges on critical decisions made and actions taken by security personnel first arriving on the scene. Organizational policies and procedures provide necessary structure to a good response.

 

CPI Highlighted in Disability Rights North Carolina Report
Disability Rights North Carolina, the state’s dedicated Protection & Advocacy organization, published a report in February describing several case studies of Physical Restraint and Seclusion. The report recommends that all staff attend a recognized training program, such as those provided by the Crisis Prevention Institute.

 

Ten Tips for Crisis Prevention
A crisis can be defined as a moment in time when an individual in your charge loses rational, and at times even physical, control over his or her own behavior. This can be very challenging and anxiety producing for those responsible for intervening. Due to the chaotic, unpredictable nature of a crisis, it is vital that staff stay calm and proceed with a plan.

Combating the Varieties of Violence at Work
Acts of workplace violence can happen anywhere, as those alleged in the death of 24-year-old Yale pharmacology graduate student Annie Le, who was reportedly strangled by a coworker and stuffed inside a wall.
While Le’s case is an extreme example of workplace violence, people experience many types of negative behavior at work.
