Links Between Violence and Prescription Drugs
A recent study published in PloS One links several prescription medications to violent acts. Data from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), used in the study, indicated that out of 780,169 adverse events reported for 484 different medications, 1,937 were acts of violence. Oregon Legislation Would Reduce Use of Restraint and Seclusion in Schools
The state of Oregon has introduced House bill 2939, which would prohibit the use of mechanical, chemical, or prone restraint in public education programs and enforce the state’s existing education rules. Read: "Oregon Legislation Would Reduce Use of Restraint and Seclusion in Schools."

 

Americans Unaware of Changes to Mental Health Laws
In a survey of 2,940 adults that was conducted by the American Psychological Association and Harris Interactive in December last year, it was revealed that 87 percent were not familiar with the Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act of 2008. The law requires health insurers to apply the same coverage for mental health treatment as they do for other medical services. Read: "Americans Unaware of Changes to Mental Health Laws."
