Increased Likelihood of Cognitive Impairment in Sepsis Survivors
A new study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association indicates that older adults who survive severe sepsis are more than three times more likely to suffer from long-term cognitive impairment and physical limitations, according to a press release from the University of Michigan Health System. Hospital Considers Adding Police Officer to ER Staff
Mount Nittany Medical Center in State College, PA is debating the addition of a uniformed police officer to the emergency room staff during busy weekends. The idea was suggested at a meeting of the Centre Region Council of Governments Public Safety Committee after members were informed that intoxicated patients were causing safety concerns and reducing the amount of resources available to other ER patients at the hospital. NASW Asks Social Workers to Take Stance Against Bullying
On its website, the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) published a statement calling on social workers to speak out against harassment and bullying.
According to the statement, NASW policy "clearly addresses the importance of the social work profession to ensure a school’s culture is free of intimidation or behaviors that can be viewed as harassing to students—including lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender students."
