Continuing Education Units

CPI maintains a wide variety of program approvals, accreditations, sponsorships, and providerships through numerous entities for continuing education. Each entity is governed by its own set of rules and policies, and uses its own terminology with respect to credits, hours, or units and how they are calculated. It is important to note that CPI does not issue credits of any kind. We work with various boards and licensing organizations so that they have the appropriate information and fees to recognize our training program to be in compliance with their requirements.

Because CPI trains individuals from different countries, states, and professions, it is not feasible for CPI to apply to all the applicable licensing and certifying boards for continuing education approval.

If there is an organization to which you would like to submit CPI training hours, and it is not listed below, you should contact the organization directly and inquire about its requirements for recognizing trainings.

Many organizations will simply accept the Certificate of Attendance that CPI issues to those who attend training programs conducted by our Professional Staff Instructors. In some cases, they will request copies of the course outline and training objectives. Please contact ceu@crisisprevention.com to obtain copies of our detailed program outline.

CPI is continually reviewing the approvals, accreditations, etc., that we maintain. If you would like CPI to consider applying with a specific entity or organization, please email the name of the entity, along with pertinent contact information to the CEU Coordinator at ceu@crisisprevention.com.

CPI has been awarded full accreditation by the British Institute of Learning Disabilities (BILD). This official recognition is the culmination of CPI's efforts over the few past years aimed at ensuring that every facet of the Nonviolent Crisis Intervention® training programme is fully compliant with the BILD Code of Practice for Trainers in the Use of Physical Interventions, in addition to the DoH/DfES Statutory Guidance on the Use of Restrictive Physical Intervention as well as the new Care Standards. We are especially proud of this prestigious endorsement of the Nonviolent Crisis Intervention® programme, as CPI is the first training organisation in the UK to have undergone the full process of accreditation by BILD. This accreditation is particularly relevant for Certified Instructors responsible for training staff who care for individuals with learning disabilities, autism, and/or emotional behavioural disturbance. For further information, please contact the CPI UK office at cpiworldwide@crisisprevention.com, Tel: 0161 929 9777.

Institute of Conflict Management (ICM)

CPI in the UK is accorded Quality Award Centre Status by the Institute of Conflict Management (ICM). This status is valid until 2007, when it may be renewed.

What Does It Mean?
The ICM has played a key role in the development of National Occupational Standards (NOS) for the management of work-related violence. The Standards provide employers with an insight into the key elements of an effective violence prevention strategy and recognition of the significant role training plays. CPI was sent a comprehensive tool kit, that included criteria to be satisfied and guidance on how to approach acquiring the evidence required. After a rigorous process, CPI then sent its application with supporting evidence. The application was then forwarded by ICM to an independent External Assessment Agency for consideration.

Key Principles of the Quality Award
The ICM Quality Award is based on six key principles: Process focus, Flexibility, Inclusiveness, Support and development, Self assessment, Integrity and fair play.

It is an honour for CPI to have met the principles and criteria to obtain the Quality Award, and CPI anticipates a very rewarding relationship with the Institute of Conflict Management.

Office for Health Management (Ireland)

Its mission is to add value to management development for the health services and not to duplicate the work of existing agencies. The OHM Service Providers Database aims to provide health service managers and staff with a one-stop shop where they can view the current range of courses and services available to them. For more information about this database listing, you may contact the Crisis Prevention Institute, Inc. Ontario MCFCS
In 2002, the Ontario Ministry of Community, Family and Children's Services amended the Child and Family Services Act and the Developmental Services Act regarding the use of physical restraints. Regulation 70, sections 109.1-109.3, outlines the requirements regarding the use of physical restraints and training by providers. Agencies under the jurisdiction of this Act were required to provide training in the use of physical restraints before April 1, 2003. The Crisis Prevention Institute was advised that the Nonviolent Crisis Intervention® training program was approved under the provisions of this Act to meet this Ministerial training requirement. CPI is an approved provider for the adult client population, as well as for children and adolescents.
