Life Space Crisis Intervention Training

Address Chronic Patterns of Self Defeating Behavior.

If you work with troubled and troubling youth, you have no doubt been confronted with repetitive displays of self-defeating behavior and have encountered youth who:

  • Refuse to accept responsibility and blame others.
  • Distort reality.
  • Show little conscience for aggressive behavior.
  • Exhibit self-abusive behavior.
  • Engage in endless power struggles.
  • Are manipulated into false friendships.
  • Lack social skills.
  • Get pleasure out of bringing pain to others.
  • Threaten others.

Learn New Skills to Turn Crises Into Opportunities.
The Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) is pleased to offer Life Space Crisis Intervention (LSCI) Training. This intensive, four-and-a-half day training will empower you will the skills to turn crises into opportunities for learning, growth, insight, and change.

Expansive Problem-Solving and Intervention Strategies.
LSCI is an internationally recognized, professional training and certification program sponsored by the Life Space Crisis Intervention Institute. Founders Nicholas J. Long Ph.D. and Frank A. Fecser Ph.D. developed this highly interactive training, which is based on 27 specific skills needed to respond successfully to a youth’s crisis. These concepts are anchored in supporting, caring relationships between youth and staff.

Help Youth Find Their Strength and Resilience.
LSCI is an advanced, therapeutic strategy that provides a roadmap through conflict to desired outcomes. This verbal, nonphysical reclaiming intervention program utilizes a muti-theoretical approach to behavior management and problem solving. You’ll learn:

  • How to read diagnostic cues and identify the feeling behind behaviors.
  • How to mediate between a youth’s stress, behavior, and reactions of others.
  • Awareness skills to help avoid counteraggressive responses.
  • Specific interviewing techniques to help in debriefing after a critical event.
  • Ways to create positive relationships with youth.

Why LSCI Works.
LSCI is grounded in the belief that the process of helping involves having the ability to listen deeply to the personal stories of youth and to recognize that their message is often not in their words, but in their underlying thoughts and feelings. Each has a story to tell.

One of the key elements of LSCI is the development of trust between staff and youth in their care. In the LSCI model, youth in crisis:

  • Are valued and treated with respect.
  • Learn to trust caring adults and use them for support in times of crisis.
  • Become aware of their patterns of self-defeating behavior.
  • Acquire strength-based social skills.
  • Learn to accept responsibility for inappropriate actions.

Put New Skills to Use Immediately.
LSCI training includes lectures, video analysis, role-playing, skill demonstration, and assigned textbook reading. To ensure that all skills are in place, participants take a content exam and demonstrate their ability to properly initiate and conduct complete LSCI interviews. All participants who complete the program receive a Certificate of Competency from the Life Space Crisis Intervention Institute and can begin putting their new skills to work immediately.

Ideal for Anyone Who Works With Troubled Youth.
LSCI training is beneficial for any organization with staff who work with troubled, at-risk children and youth, including:

  • Educators
  • Administrators
  • Juvenile Justice Professionals
  • Psychologists
  • Therapeutic Counselors
