Positive Solutions for Reducing Restraint

Nonviolent Crisis Intervention® training is the program that teaches us how to avoid a physical intervention by focusing on early verbal intervention,” writes Theresa Maez in “More Than Just the ‘Restraint Class.’”

Before participating in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention® training, staff at Academy School District #20 in Colorado Springs, CO thought the program was a “restraint class.”

Once they attended the course, however, they gained skills in avoiding physical intervention and in using verbal intervention to de-escalate and prevent disruptive and assaultive student behavior.

The result? A decrease in physical interventions across the district.

The philosophy of the Nonviolent Crisis Intervention® training program is Care, Welfare, Safety, and Security℠. The heart of Nonviolent Crisis Intervention® training is centered on prevention.
