This year’s Instructor Conference logo was a light bulb, colored with radiant kaleidoscope gems. The light bulb is a nearly universal symbol of an innovative idea, because its own invention was so revolutionary to the way that we live. And the kaleidoscope reflects the unique viewpoints, skillsets, and passions that our Certified Instructors bring to their daily work.
Because CPI Certified Instructors utilize their training in their own workplaces, meaningful crisis prevention and safe crisis intervention happen all over the world, every day. Certified Instructors form relationships with their learners—their colleagues and staff—encouraging them to actively participate in their own growth as they advocate for the
Care, Welfare, Safety, and Security℠ of their teams and the populations that they care for. Certified Instructors bring those core values alive for their staff, building mutual trust and friendships that can last a lifetime.
Conference is a chance to come together from our respective workplaces. A chance to gather from across the globe and engage in the camaraderie that sustains and nurtures our vision and dedication as Certified Instructors. This July, we came together and took time to cultivate and grow the relationships amongst ourselves that we strive to develop in our training participants back at home. We challenged ourselves to reflect on how our training can be seen with a different lens—how to add the colors from each of our different perspectives, and enrich our kaleidoscope view of
Nonviolent Crisis Intervention® training. As we each took turns signing the poster for this year’s Conference, we celebrated the fact that Certified Instructors illuminate our world with what they do. The light bulb glows stronger and more colorful because of a shared commitment to our mission of
Care, Welfare, Safety, and Security℠.
Along with CPI staff, the Midwest Chapter of Certified Instructors took a leading role in hosting this year’s Conference. Six Certified Instructors from this chapter—Carmen Bergman, Frederick Bryant, James Getty, John Heiderscheidt, Victoria Kim, and Kim Urbanek—made up the core team that collaborated with CPI to design an engaging experience for attendees. Their vision centered on three key concepts that they believe make the Conference experience so meaningful for Certified Instructors: relationships, growth, and camaraderie. As we now reflect on Conference, we’re grateful for the tireless effort that every Certified Instructor in the CPI family puts forth to facilitate the philosophy of
Care, Welfare, Safety, and Security℠ day to day, right where they live and work.
It’s never too early to start thinking about our next opportunity to connect as Certified Instructors—we look forward to seeing you all again in 2019 in Scottsdale, Arizona!
