The Louisiana State Board of Education is required to prepare and adopt guidelines regarding the use of restraint and seclusion of students with disabilities after H.B. 405 was passed in June.

Originally, the bill called for creation of “rules and regulations,” but the wording was changed to “guidelines” so that the rules would not be mandated by the state.

Previously, Louisiana did not have guidelines on how or when schools and districts were allowed to use to use restraint or seclusion with students.
