Oklahoma SB 280, a bill modifying various provisions related to reimbursement of long-term care facilities, was recently acted on as follows:
- Oklahoma SB 280 was adopted and passed into law on 5/28/19.
- Oklahoma SB 280 stipulates that “for the purpose of providing quality care enhancements, the Oklahoma Health Care Authority is authorized to and shall assess a Nursing Facilities Quality of Care Fee . . . upon each nursing facility licensed in this state”.
- Oklahoma SB 280 further stipulates that a portion of these funds (collected in the assessment of the above mentioned Nursing Facilities Quality of Care Fee) will be used to ensure that by January 1, 2020 all clinical employees working in a licensed nursing facility shall be required to receive at least four (4) hours annually of Alzheimer’s or dementia training, to be provided and paid for by the facilities.

CPI Training Can Help Your Facility Comply With Oklahoma Senate Bill 280
CPI offers training and resources to help facilities meet legislative mandates like the policy requirements set forth in Oklahoma Senate Bill 280.
Dementia Capable Care training equips staff with techniques for both the prevention of and the safe use of restraint. Our train-the-trainer program helps staff identify underlying causes of resident behaviors, and how staff and residents behaviors affect each other. The program also emphasizes:
- Evaluating risk of harm and signs of distress.
- Documenting incidents.
- Safer, less restrictive holding skills to be used only as a last resort.
- Behavioral supports.
- Implementing evidence-based practices.
