Overview

CPI's first dual certification, this program allows existing NCI instructors to renew their Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NCI) certification while obtaining a Dementia Capable Care (DCC) certification. In addition, you will become qualified to teach your NCI classes with a focus on dementia care. For the price of a single specialized renewal, learn the skills you need to interact with a general client base, and with those living with Alzheimer’s or dementia.

Note: During this time of social distancing, this training takes place entirely online to ensure the health and safety of our participants and Global Professional Instructors (GPI). To practice your restrictive interventions and have a GPI assess your skills in person, we encourage you to attend a one-day classroom Refresher program at a later date. To register for a Refresher program, please call 888.426.2184. As always, there is no charge for active Certified Instructors to attend a live follow-up event.

How It Works

  1. Pre-Training: Online Course (3-4 hours)

Before your live virtual training begins, you must complete the Dementia Capable Care (DCC) online course. The online course is a prerequisite to attending your live virtual training. You will receive an invitation to complete the online course approximately 10 days before the start date of your live virtual training.

  2. Live Virtual Training: DCC Course (Day 1 of 2, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.)

Day 1 of your live virtual training covers the DCC curriculum and prepares you to train the program back in your organization. A Global Professional Instructor (GPI) leads the interactive instruction session.

  3. Live Virtual Training: NCI Course (Day 2 of 2, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.)

Day 2 of your live virtual training covers the NCI Renewal curriculum. A Global Professional Instructor (GPI) leads the interactive instruction session. In the live event you will apply considerations for people with dementia to the NCI program through a variety of activities, explore workplace scenarios with your peers, and work interactively with a GPI to discuss facilitation strategies.

  4. Online Certification Exam (1 hour)

To earn your NCI renewal certification and your DCC certification, you must complete and pass the Online Certification Exam. You will receive an email with a link to this exam following the virtual training sessions.
