Our flagship program since 1980, Nonviolent Crisis Intervention® (NCI™) training is structured for primary caregivers, educators, and human service professionals who experience and directly intervene in crisis situations. This training focuses on de-escalation techniques, risk assessment, and both nonrestrictive and restrictive interventions.
NCI™ is available as a first-time instructor certification and as a renewal or refresher for an existing instructor. NCI™ Trauma, NCI™ Mental Health, and NCI™ Specialized Renewal: Autism Spectrum Disorder course options are also available.
Note: Please log in to access renewal and refresher course registrations.
Pre-training: Online Course
2-3 hours
Before your classroom training begins, you must complete an online course. This sets the foundation for future sessions, with quizzes to help make sure you retain what you’ve learned. You will receive an invitation to complete the online course approximately 10 days before your classroom training.
Classroom Training
You will learn how to recognize the stages of an escalating crisis and how to apply evidence-based techniques and strategies to appropriately de-escalate using the least-restrictive response to ensure the Care, Welfare, Safety, and SecuritySM of those in your care. In addition to nonrestrictive techniques, the Instructor will train and assess your restrictive intervention skills, as well as assess your competency in the overall program through teach-back exercises.
Start and end times may vary, but the total number of hours each day will not change. Confirm the start and end times in your registration email.
Day 1: 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM
Day 2: 8:30 AM - 3:30 PM
Day 3: 8:30 AM - 3:30 PM
Online Certification Exam
1 hour
To earn your certification or renewal, you must complete and pass the Online Certification Exam. You will receive an email with a link to this exam prior to completing the classroom session.
