New Dual Certification: Nonviolent Crisis Intervention® and Dementia Capable Care

Renew your NCI™ certification and add a Dementia certification

As instances of people living with dementia continues to increase, so too does the likelihood of providing care for someone living with dementia. It’s no surprise that our Certified Instructors have been asking for ways to incorporate dementia care into the Nonviolent Crisis Intervention® (NCI) curriculum. We are happy to introduce our newest renewal option, Dual Certification: Nonviolent Crisis Intervention® and Dementia Capable Care.

What is Dual Certification: Nonviolent Crisis Intervention® and Dementia Capable Care?
This dual certification is a program for existing NCI Certified Instructors who provide care to those living with dementia, or cognitive disabilities. Dual Certification: Nonviolent Crisis Intervention® and Dementia Capable Care also allows current NCI Certified Instructors to fulfill their NCI renewal requirement, become certified to teach Dementia Capable Care, 2nd Edition, and become qualified to teach NCI, 2nd Edition with a focus on dementia.

Delivered in a virtual format, this dual certification consists of the Dementia Capable Care, 2nd Edition online course, and two live-virtual days covering both Dementia Capable Care, 2nd Edition and NCI, 2nd Edition trainings.

What is Dementia Capable Care?
Dementia Capable Care is an evidence-based training that provides organizations and their staff with the tools needed to deliver the best quality care for those living at different stages of dementia. Designed to help drive measurable results, the program blends the Claudia Allen Cognitive Disabilities Model, which shows staff how to support persons at all cognitive levels and dementia stages, with Kitwood’s model of person-centered care and CPI’s verbal de-escalation techniques.

What the dual certification means for you and your organization.
With this new dual certification, not only will NCI Certified Instructors be able to enhance their staff trainings with the specialized dementia topic that better addresses the needs of those in their care, there are also tremendous benefits for the entire organization.

  • Implementing dementia focused training into your existing NCI training creates a cohesive training program for your entire organization.
  • Ensures optimal transitions of care within each hospital/care unit and into other settings by preparing your staff with the skills needed to work with patients’ pre-existing conditions.
  • By attending this dual certification, renewing NCI Certified Instructors will get to experience the recently updated NCI, 2nd Edition content containing new evidence-based insights, terminology, and training materials.
  • For the price of one specialized renewal, NCI Certified Instructors can fulfill their NCI renewal requirement AND become certified to teach Dementia Capable Care, 2nd Edition AND become qualified to teach NCI, 2nd Edition with a focus on dementia.

Ensure optimal transitions of care through a cohesive training program leveraging crisis prevention and dementia care training.
