CPI was established in the United States in 1980 for human services professionals to address the need for training in safe, respectful, non-invasive methods for managing disruptive and potentially aggressive behaviour in a way that's compatible with staff duty to provide the best possible care.
Developed during the 1970s, Nonviolent Crisis Intervention℠ training provided a balance in behaviour management that was unique at the time. Our co-founders' human services experience and backgrounds in kinesics, physiology, and communication contributed to the development of an innovative, holistic system for defusing escalating behaviour.
Understanding effective communication and human physiology during aggressive moments, as well as the core philosophy of maintaining Care, Welfare, Safety, and Security℠, has always and continues to provide the solid foundation of our approach. Since the company's inception, and now in our fourth decade, CPI remains at the forefront of critical issues and best practices in behaviour management.
To date, more than 10 million human services professionals around the world have participated in CPI training programmes to learn proven strategies that safely resolve aggressive or potentially aggressive situations, while maintaining therapeutic relationships with those in their care.
CPI International (ROW / Europe)
Positive Options, a UK-based training and consultancy organisation, joined the CPI family in 2010. With a philosophy and training practices that were rooted in person-centred thinking, action and excellence, Positive Options brought with them a range of organisational solutions, including physical and non-physical interventions. The partnership currently delivers comprehensive training and services for staff who work with vulnerable individuals, having brought together our UK and European operations into a single, stronger unit - CPI International.
CPI International now incorporates different training programmes with added flexibility and content, and improved delivery methods for our Safety Intervention training, formerly MAPA®, Dementia Capable Care, and Clincial Holding programmes. We work in places within the UK and Ireland, France, Finland, Australia & New Zealand, the Middle East and more.
Our founders gave us the middle name of Prevention for a reason. Preventing harm has always been and will always be the heart of everything we do. Our aim is to give you simple strategies to make yourself and others safer. Discover how our customers use our training to do exactly that.
