The Scotland County School System of North Carolina was looking to improve their Behavior Support for Exceptional Children (BSEC) program. The program supports students with learning difficulties in developing skills in problem solving, social interaction, conflict resolution, and more. But teachers and staff struggled with how to best support the students when challenges arose.

The Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE), the nation’s largest regional education agency, sought to implement a comprehensive, yet flexible and practical approach to reducing the number of violent incidents resulting in injuries, and create a safer environment in which to educate and care for children.

Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center sought to assemble a set of tools that staff could use to prevent and de-escalate situations, continually improve patient care techniques, diminish the need for use of restraints, and adapt to change. 

Founded in 1888 in Atlanta, Georgia, Hillside provides specialized behavioral treatment and education to children and their families through residential and community mental health services. The population of the residential program ranges from 12 to 18 years of age.

Nash General Hospital, a 282-bed facility whose emergency room treats over 65,000 patients each year, sought a customizable training program with the ability to engage trainees, instill confidence, and ultimately increase levels of employee and patient safety.

In all five high schools and even in the middle schools, physical aggression and fights were erupting—and staff were instructed to stop the violence. Well-intended but unskilled interventions were resulting in injuries to both students and staff. As a result, the district was expelling an average of 40 kids a year, and workers’ comp claims were frequent.

Lafayette Parish Schools sought to implement a system-wide policy, curriculum, and behavioral plan to reduce the number of incidents, classroom disruptions, and physical altercations. Striving to equip and empower all persons involved to ensure a safe environment for everyone throughout the parish schools.

The security department at Baptist Saint Anthony’s (BSA) Health System sought to change how they managed challenging, even violent behaviors, the number of physical restraints used, and the number of worker compensation claims.
