Texas 25 TAC 417.47: Training Requirements for State Hospitals
Texas Title 25, Part 1, Chapter 417 has added a new section, 417.47, which requires state hospitals to provide staff training on:
- The uniqueness of the individuals state hospitals serve
- Techniques for improving safety and quality of life for individuals with mental illness
- The safe and proper use of restraints
- Preventing and managing aggressive or violent behavior
- Positive behavior support
- Trauma-informed care
This new section also creates a requirement for employees to receive refresher training at least annually, in accordance with Texas Senate Bill 152, which was adopted in 2013. The legislation is intended to ensure that all state hospital staff have the skills to handle violent patient behavior in a manner that’s as safe as possible for everyone.
