Hawaii Legislation HB 1876 To Require Training for Dementia Caregivers

On January 25, 2016, the state of Hawaii proposed bill HB 1876, written to require an expansion of dementia training for caregivers:
- The bill requires the Department of Health Services to study an expansion of dementia training for caregivers: anyone who has a legal or contractual duty to care for the health, safety, or welfare of another individual.
- The Department shall require training on dementia for all caregivers. Training shall include orientation, basic training, specialty training as appropriate, and continuing education.
- The Department shall require all facility employees and volunteers who routinely interact with individuals with dementia to compflete the training.
- This Act shall take effect on June 1, 2017, and the department shall establish the criteria for all levels of dementia training by June 1, 2018.
