Crisis Intervention Music on the Beach

November 9, 2011
Two pairs of hands clasped together.

There is an old saying that music soothes the savage beast. I would have to agree with that. Music can have a calming effect on individuals. Music can also excite, bewilder, or even make people upset in some cases. I once attended a goth concert in Tampa Bay, FL where the lead singer spit beer on the crowd in the first few rows. I, for one, was not too pleased. The music, actually, was enjoyable. It was the beer shower that was a bit unpleasant. Thank you, Marilyn Manson.

I recently facilitated the Nonviolent Crisis Intervention® program in Pensacola, FL on Pensacola Beach. Our trip coordinator told me that there would be a beach concert beginning on the last day of our training. We needed to secure a room that would somehow insulate our group from the music. We were able to reserve the hotel boardroom to conduct the practicums on our last day. Not only did we have a quiet environment, we also felt like big shots. Thank you, Jeaneath!

The DeLuna Festival was in full swing by the time we finished our last practicum and started taking the exam. This is an annual festival that they have that includes dozens of bands. Once all the participants left, I decided to kill some time (nonviolently) before I had to leave for the airport. I took a stroll along the beach in order to check it out. Click Play on the player below to see my on-the-spot cellphone-camera report. I hope you enjoy the musical video and look forward to many more video reports from destinations near and far. Thank you to all the participants who got certified that week!
