Sunrise School District – Missouri
The Impact of CPI Training
- Increase in staff confidence
- Decrease in classroom disruptions
- Increase in positive peer-to-peer relationships
Situation
Staff at Sunrise School District in De Soto, Missouri needed additional training to help keep students with behavioral and developmental challenges in the classroom. Due to a lack of training, staff were uncertain how to best support the students in their classroom when behaviors escalated.
Solution
When paraprofessional Diane St. John joined Sunrise School District, she realized CPI training could provide staff with the tools to proactively de-escalate situations and keep students in the classroom and support their well-being. St. John asked her administration to have CPI training brought to staff and volunteered to be the district’s lead Certified Instructor.
Results
With CPI training, Sunrise staff acquired the tools they needed to safely de-escalate situations and proactively create classroom spaces where all students could succeed. The training boosted staff confidence, led to a decrease in classroom incidents, and improved peer-to-peer relationships.
“Once we got CPI training started in our district, staff started to understand that there were ways to keep students in the classrooms and to work with them—to meet them at their level and meet their needs in the classroom setting.”
